"The new Vivitar 85mm f 1.8 has horrible chromatic aberration compared to Samyang.
Back in the 1970s and 80s, the Vivitar Series 1 rivaled OEM in terms of build and optical quality and even pushed the state of art at bargain prices. It's a shame that the Vivitar Series 1 brand has slipped to substandard mediocrity. I would say spend the extra and get the Samyang, if you absolutely can not, and are on a tight budget then get it and shoot stopped down to rid the horrid purple fringing known as chromatic aberration."Īnother commenter added: "The 1.8 version is made by Changchun Highway Optronics Co, in Jiling, China." Also the focusing ring gets tighter as you turn it, NOT VERY SMOOTH! I had a lot of play in the copy I tested, so I removed the rubber grip on the ring and tightened the little screws which helped a lot and made it more snug, less rickety feeling with less play. "The new Vivitar 85mm f 1.8 has horrible chromatic aberration compared to Samyang. Cleans up at around f5.6. I was rather surprised to see the Vivitar Series 1 brand still around and got curious.ĭid a google search and found this review on :
